My Health, My Rights | Young Health Rights Defenders are leading the way in health rights and change.
As we mark Scottish Children’s Health Week from 1–7 September, we’re proud to celebrate the incredible work of Children’s Health Scotland — Scotland’s leading children’s health charity. Dedicated to ensuring that every child in Scotland has the right to the best possible health, their work continues to make a powerful difference in the lives of children and young people across the country.
This year, to support Scottish Children’s Health Week, Children’s Health Scotland will launch the My Health, My Rights Charter report on Friday 5 September — a powerful publication that places children and young people with long-term health conditions at the heart of change. Developed in collaboration with the pioneering Health Rights Defenders, the report highlights how children’s voices have led to real action, helping professionals and adults listen more deeply and respond more effectively to their needs.
The Charter is a testament to what happens when children are empowered to speak up and lead. Through creative consultation, health-related play, and rights-based storytelling, Children’s Health Scotland has made children’s rights not just visible, but actionable.
“Sometimes adults don’t understand what it’s like to live with a health condition every day. But when they listen, really listen, it makes things better. That’s why we made the Charter – so they know what we need and how to help.”
— Health Rights Defender, age 14
Scottish Children’s Health Week is a time to reflect on the importance of listening to children, supporting their wellbeing, and recognising their right to be heard – especially those living with long-term health conditions.

Consultancy and Training
Together provides training and consultancy to organisations looking to strengthen how they support children’s human rights.
For twenty-five years, Together has been helping organisations and individuals from a range of backgrounds and roles to improve their awareness and understanding of children’s human rights in practice. This has included work on the Skills and Knowledge project, which explores what professionals need to know and apply to be able to implement children’s human rights.
The UNCRC (Incorporation) (Scotland) Act 2024 will impact public bodies, private sector organisations and third sector organisations all over Scotland, as they look to further their work on children’s rights. Together can support organisations to identify situations in which they are already implementing children’s rights in practice, alongside how they can evolve their work using a Children’s Human Rights Approach.
